GORGONIA REEF (20-30mt)

This is the farest dive site , almost 15 minutes ride located in front of the beautiful Chac Lagoon. The reef starts at a depth of 20mt / 60 ft huge and amazing canyons filled with big gorgonias and barrel sponges. The reef is untouched and alive and between the several cracks of the coral, lying on the sandy bottom we can find a nurse shark. when the current is picking up a little bit we can find tunas, eagle rays and a few marlins.

MEDIA LUNA (10-20mt)

This reef is located in front of the homonymous bay.
The shallow and sandy bottom with coral pinnacles where clouds of Sergeant Majors and Grunts swim free between the Elkhorn coral. Nice encounters with tarpons are also possible at half moon reef.

MORGAN REEF(18-25mt)

Located north-east from the Akumal bay this is the closest site perfect for night dives and when the condition of the ocean are not the best. Very bright reef with reef and white sandy canyons with several hidden spots that represent a perfect habitat for green and spotted eels and lobsters.

LAS REDES (15-30mt) 

Another interesting diving place situated south of Akumal bay. It is distinguished for the alternation of sandy open spaces and coral islands that gather a rich variety of fauna: populations of surgeon fish, angelfish, parrot fish, real crabs and butterfly fish. On the sandy bottom it is very easy to glimpse stingrays and the nice dance of the sand congers. 
Besides, here it would be easier to meet the nice Sea Turtles, symbol of Akumal.

Akumal Local Dive

The Mayan word Akumal means “ the turtles” place but for the divers means also barracuda, jacks, nurse sharks, reef fish and tons of corals.
The wonderful reef that protects the bay , as a matter of fact is the perfect spot for beautiful dives between the awesome canyons filled with soft corals and sponges of any kind.
The average temperature of 25c/78f and the good visibility make diving in Akumal easy and fun all year round thank to the reef that is smoothly descending.
Akumal offers at least 15 different dive sites located along the 3 km / 2 miles of reef in front of our resort and we can reach all of them in a matter of minutes with our boats.
